Can Sansoro Health Simplify EMRs and “Fix Healthcare IT?” We Ask CEO Jeremy Pierotti

Sansoro’s Pierotti Working to Streamline EMR Interoperability

Jeremy Pierotti is CEO of Sansoro Health, a health IT start-up focused on simplifying EMR interoperability. Pierotti has enjoyed a great run of success since launching the company in 2014. Sansoro won the 10th annual Venture+ Forum pitch competition for start-ups in healthcare tech as part of the 2016 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference. The company received $1.2 million in seed funding in 2016 from several investors and recently secured $5.2 million in Series A funding led by Bain Capital Ventures. Sansoro will use the new capital to hire more people in sales and marketing and further develop the product, “including new functionality and extending the platform to support other EMRs,” says Pierotti. That brings a total of $6.4 million raised to date. Pierotti’s success can be traced to his experience with EMR implementations. “I knew how hard the integration piece was” but also knew that the teams responsible for the implementations always had the smartest people, he notes. Pierotti was put in touch with David Levin, MD, a family physician by training, who had been working on an EMR-agnostic web services middleware platform. Together, they established a team and kept working on the technology. The software, Emissary, offers a standard set of read and write APIs for real-time data exchange. Pierrotti says he knew the right team could change health IT. That’s why Sansoro’s team represents decades of health IT experience and a “deep understanding of the challenges.” Sansoro “seeks to be the champion of health IT leaders in leveraging and exploiting all of the value they can get out of their EMR investment.” Helping providers get data in and out of their systems lets those providers incorporate third-party apps into their systems and improve the value and the quality of care delivery. Pierotti explains it also helps health IT leaders say yes instead of no to requests from their customers in the healthcare system. Many of those requests require several FTEs and a project manager who has to map out a six- to nine-month integration plan. Based on his track record to date, Pierotti is well on his way to helping health IT leaders become heroes.
