Melissa Buckley
Director
Health Innovation Fund at California Health Care Foundation
Biography
Melissa Buckley directs the California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) Health Innovation Fund. In addition to having deep experience at the intersection of health care and finance, she leads one of the nation's first investment funds to exist within a philanthropic foundation and one of the first funds to focus exclusively on the Medicaid market. The CHCF Innovation Fund has invested in 25 venture-backed companies working in the Medicaid market since its founding 2011. With the Fund's strategic support, which typically includes introducing companies to payers and providers, leading third-party evaluations, and navigating regulatory challenges, one investee, iRhythm, has gone public and others, including Collective Medical, Unite US, Omada, Propeller, and Landmark Health, have reached significant scale. Because the Fund is part of a philanthropic foundation, it has a uniquely mission-driven focus and keen ability to identify innovations that will truly improve care.
